The formation of Great Ocean Road Region Tourism Board (GORRT) has meant Apollo Bay Chamber of Commerce  membership is not a component of membership to Geelong Otway Tourism. GORRT has dropped the membership model and will be relying on obtaining much of its funding from selling promotional packages to operators. Our experience with the new Board and Executive has been refreshingly positive and professional.
The Chamber is seen by GORRT and the Colac Otway Shire as a go to body when they are seeking feedback on issues and plans. Following the sale of the marathon our financial situation is such that we are in a position to provide seed funds in order to leverage project grants from local and state government organisations.
With a new Shire administration, a new tourism board, a new school and principal and the community togetherness demonstrated during the harbour planning amendment process the Chamber believes that the future is very positive and that there is a genuine mood of progress and good will.
However, for the Chamber to be a truly representative body and to be able to properly deal with your needs we require a broad and active membership base. The Chamber is currently undertaking a review of its Purpose and Vision statements and looking to establish new Articles of Association, Membership Structure and a Strategic Plan to become a truly inclusive organisation that can champion a range of issues affecting the business community.
Previously our membership has been made up predominantly of accommodation businesses; however we feel that this does not represent the broader commercial sector of Apollo Bay. The Apollo Bay Chamber of Commerce  intends to broaden the membership base initially by reducing the membership fee to make it accessible to all traders and groups so that we can represent a truly united community.
